This SG 221 HDS was intended for commuter traffic in southern Europe, but remained a one-off and formed the basis for two other high-deckers of a special kind: the S 215 HDS and the S 216 HDS would soon bring Kässbohrer many new customers. This bus also brought the S into play: it stands for Super, because these new high-deckers lived up to their name: with a height of 3.63 meters, the high passenger compartment created an even larger space in which more luggage (16 cubic meters) and more service equipment could be accommodated. And additional tanks were no problem either. Regardless of which of the two Super Setras the bus operator chose, the fascinating thing about the two new Ulm buses from an engineering perspective was the fact that, apart from the front section, they were 100 percent based on the 200 series modular system and were identical to the other Setra coaches. The 216 HDS offered space for a maximum of 16 rows of seats. In direct comparison, the version with an underfloor cockpit had more space. Kässbohrer had a vision with the Setra SG 221 HDS, but the ban on driving articulated buses through France made the Ulm-based company rethink in favor of solo vehicles. The SG 221 HDS was then used as a demonstration and information bus at trade fairs and for conferences, and with the generously equipped kitchen on board, it was the point of contact for representatives and customers.
